On September 7th, Tianjin University’s School of New Media and Communication hosted a school-opening ceremony to welcome 78 master’s and doctoral students. The ceremony was presided over by Wang Zan, the Secretary of the School’s Party Committee, with the participation of the School’s leadership rank, faculty members, representatives of students at school, and all new students.
On behalf of the School, Wang welcomed all the new students and congratulated them on embarking on a new journey in life. Professor Lu Jiahui, the Director of the Journalism and Communication Department, spoke as a representative of the faculty. He shared his profound understanding of graduate education, encouraging new students to forge ahead on the path of academic exploration, face challenges bravely, and actively seek the unknown.
At the ceremony, representatives of both students at school and new students delivered speeches. Parents of new students also conveyed their expectations and blessings through videos. The School emphasized the importance of fostering a family-like culture, endeavoring through various activities to make every student feel the care and encouragement of a home while pursuing their academic dreams. Additionally, the School places emphasis on cultivating gratitude education, hoping that new students can feel warmth and support while also learning to give thanks and reciprocate.
Professor Lu Xiaohua, Dean of the School, extended a warm welcome to the new students, highlighting the School’s mission and responsibilities in the new era and inspiring them to lead the development of the times in the wave of new media, striving to become talents who can both adapt to and lead the future. In his speech, Lu emphasized the core competencies required of future talents, including a profound sense of patriotism, cross-disciplinary abilities, and qualities of driving intelligent and green development. He encouraged all new students to refine themselves in three key areas during their future studies and research: firstly, to strive diligently with ambition and integrity; secondly, to identify and solve problems; thirdly, to have long-term vision and lead in thinking.
On the eve of the 40th Teachers’ Day, students also presented bouquets to the faculty members in attendance.
