Scholar Pang Hua Was Ranked Again in the World’s Top 2% Scientists List

  On September 16th, 2024, Stanford University and Elsevier jointly released the seventh edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, including Career-Long Impact Ranking and Single-Year Impact Ranking. Associate Professor Pang Hua from the School of New Media and Communication of Tianjin University, after being selected in 2023, was consecutively selected for the Single-Year Impact Ranking and entered the Career-Long Impact Ranking for the first time. In March 2024, Pang Hua was also selected as one of the China’s Highly Cited Researchers in the field of Journalism and Communication by Elsevier in 2023 (only 9 researchers nationwide).

  The World’s Top 2% Scientists list utilizes citation data from Scopus for systematic analysis, selecting the top 2% of scientists worldwide from nearly 7 million scientists through various comprehensive indicators. The list aims to provide a measure of scientists’ long-term research performance and reflect their academic influence truthfully and objectively.

  Pang Hua is an associate professor and master’s supervisor of the School of New Media and Communication, Tianjin University. She conducts in-depth research in fields such as new media studies, political communication, media psychology, and global media communication, focusing on youth civic participation, social media use and social capital, media exposure and mental health, cross-cultural communication, etc. She serves as a member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and a council member of the Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Mass Communication (CAHJC). She is deputy editor-in-chief of Telematics and Informatics, Frontiers in Public Health, Frontiers in Communication, and Frontiers in Sociology, academic editor of Sage Open, and special peer reviewer for over 60 top international SSCI academic journals.

  In recent years, Pang Hua has published more than 60 core papers at home and abroad, and has published one English monograph, one Chinese monograph, and one textbook. Several of her academic papers have been selected for ESI Highly Cited Papers and Hot Papers. She has hosted and participated in nearly 20 domestic and international research projects, including one project of National Social Science Fund of China, two provincial and ministerial projects, and four Tianjin University Independent Foundation projects.

  Pang Hua was selected for Tianjin University’s “Peiyang Scholar - Young Backbone Teachers" program in 2020 and received the Teaching and Education Award from the School of New Media and Communication. In 2022, she won the Excellent Academic Paper Award at the Tianjin Social Science Annual Conference. In 2023, she received the 18th Tianjin Social Science Excellent Achievement Award. In 2024, she was honored with the Qihao Award for Excellence in Academic Research in National Youth New Media Research.

  In 2019, Pang Hua worked as one of the first group of master’s supervisors in the School and founded the Power Team research group, gathering more than 20 outstanding students from multiple disciplines. Pang Hua established a multi-dimensional training model, refining multiple training paths. This interdisciplinary research and training model has greatly broadened students’ academic horizons and enhanced their ability to solve complex problems. Pang Hua has guided multiple students to publish their work in top SSCI and SCI journals, guided students to win the National Scholarship twice. Her graduates witness high job satisfaction and effective service to national needs. The team also focuses on building a positive team culture of mutual assistance, regularly organizes team-building activities, and advocates a simple and efficient lifestyle and learning approach.
